Lingualicious is a collection of resources that have worked best in the classroom along with a few other ideas & links. Hopefully all Spanish & MFL teachers can find something useful here; some are specific to my School (often my long-suffering yr 11s in silly cartoons) but please comment on & download anything you find here. I'll be updating as much as possible but go back to the older resources too as they are some of the ones I've found most effective. If you have problems with any of the presentations because of your version of Office, let me know and i'll put a 2003 version on here. Save the zip files first and then open them. The black hole - Using a short film with the conditional tense
This is a short film taken from the label 'Future shorts' which is great for quirky, fun 2-5 minute short films. I used it with year 9 as the basis for an imaginative piece of writing using the conditional tense. There's all the resources i used over the 2 lessons here including intro to conditional tense, practice, reading comprehensions, links to the vid and a homework idea.

Laraib & Bundle vs Controlled conditions
This is a video i made with the help of two of my year 11s to give the class a better idea of how to bring together all the preparation work we'd done for their 1st controlled conditions writing. It really helped get the message across in a humorous way and definitely helped students with the focus on showing off what they had learnt. Big thankyous to Laraib and Bundle. Video a bit squeaky at start but sound quality improves.

1 of 3 halloween-based lessons i'll be doing with my yr 9 Spanish set this week. PP contains a vocab sheet and exercises based on both a cartoon within the PP as well as the 1st part of a Spanish version of Garfield's Halloween special.

Vetusta Morla - 50th post!

Play Nintendo Wii in Spanish
Towards the end of last year, i played Nintendo Wii with most of my Language classes. This is a video and worksheet with ideas on how you might use the game Wii party in your Spanish class ( could also work for French/German etc). It was a really fun and worthwhile activity and hopefully this year i'll be including the Wii again as part of the module i do on commands/imperatives instead of just an end-of-term treat.

Manuel Rivas - El lápiz del carpintero
If anyone is stuck for ideas for a new novel to study at A-Level Spanish, can I strongly recommend 'El lápiz del carpintero' by Manuel Rivas (also responsible for 'La lengua de las mariposas') It's an amazing story set in Galicia around the time of the Civil War and written by one of Spain's best contemporary authors. On Saturday, my A-Level students interviewed him at the World Literature weekend in the British Museum - he was an incredibly warm, humble and inspiring person and this is a short clip from the interview where he tells us an anecdote from his childhood in order to explain how he uses his own experiences of people to develop his novels' characters.

Be negative in French
I did this lesson after a less-than-successful homework on negatives by my year 7s. Its aim was to reinforce and practise use of negatives in French. The 1st slide has a basic outline of the lesson tasks and there's a good level of challenge.

Favelas - Mi casa no es tu casa
These are the resources i used on a recent project i did with my year 10 about the Favelas in Brazil. There are photos, videos and website links which they used as a starting point to research about life in these Brazilian shanty towns and the aim was to finish off our unit about house, home and routine by writing a factual piece about a home in a favela and an imaginative one about the daily routine of a child who lives there. I've included a couple of the slides that my year 10s made.
The great big huge end-of-term game - Spanish version added
A game for the whole class including vocab, maths, drawing, pronunciation. listenings and grammar in French - aimed at Year 7. All instructions are in presentation and there's a video to help understand how it works. You'll just need mini-whiteboards and an interactive board. Remember to enable macros. Bit of a giant file i'm afraid.

Lifted - subtitling a Pixar short
3rd time i've done subtitling a cartoon as a way of getting students to use 'recyclable vocabulary'. The focus was on using superlatives & comparatives but it's a good open and fun task which allows students to experiment with different Spanish phrases. I used the Pixar short 'Lifted' and gave my students this Powerpoint in an ICT suite lesson before setting it as homework to complete. I used Movie maker to add the subtitles when i'd graded them and the best one is below.

Stop waffling!
This is a presentation i've been using with A-Level students to help them focus on building coherent, meaningful and grammatically correct sentences. It aims to help them identify where phrases are too vague, have bad grammar or simply don't relate to/answer the exam question.

Distraxion - Subtitles using interrogatives
This is the 2nd project i've done using short films where i get my class to write subtitles focusing on a specific vocab area (interrogatives here) as well as use of recyclable vocab. Powerpoint contains lesson material for interrogatives + the slides I used in the ICT suite lesson. After a week, i took the work in and used movie maker to add the best 3 students' subtitles - one of which is below.

Oktapodi - Using exclamations to write Spanish subtitles.
This is a lesson on exclamations in Spanish which led on to an ICT suite activity where my students used this vocab to write subtitles to the animated short film 'Oktapodi'. There are exercises, grammar and a Blockbusters game related to exclamations within the file. I used moviemaker to add the subtitles on to the best 3 in the class - one of which is underneath.

Mi colegio en el futuro (using animoto to describe a futuristic school)
I've tried to give my classes a chance to use animoto as an alternative way of presenting their work. This is the 2nd project my year 8 class worked on: a video project where they used the future tense as well as some school vocabulary from last year to write about a futuristic school. There's the homework presentation underneath together with 1 of the best videos. Well done Zoya!

Google Street & Voki - Toledo (with video instructions)
This is the 3rd (and probably last) webquest using Google Street view to help practice instructions in Spanish whilst navigating around a city in Spain. I've added in some tasks where the students have to visit websites of businesses and shops in Toledo - as an added twist, these questions are delivered to them by speaking Spanish Voki Avatars. Instructions video underneath to help plan how to use it; although i'm keeping it as an end-of-year challenge as it will probably cover 2 lessons.

Cogmates
This is a presentation i made for use as starter or as independent learning. The aim is to get students to exploit as many cognate verbs as possible in their Spanish writing. Come dine with me (en español) - Using animoto to make a menu in Spanish
This is a lesson i recently did with year 8 where we used animoto to create videos on the theme of the TV show 'Ven a cenar conmigo' (come dine with me). We sent the videos off to our EPALS in Spain as the culmination of our module on food. Full instructions on slide show + you can watch an example of a finished video below.

A less routine routine
This is a recent lesson and homework i did with my year 7 French. It's trying to inspire them to write creatively about a daily routine and use the internet as a tool to achieve this. There are links to a video made with JING which i really recommend for using with instructions for homeworks. I've also included a link to a really good slide show about daily routine in Cameroon.

Spain's worst hotels! - Fun lesson with tripadvisor.es
I'd wanted to do something like this for ages. This is a whole lesson & homework which begins with revision & exercises on the imperfect tense and continues to a story where i send my year 11 off to some of Spain's worst hotels. Each student has a genuine tripadvisor.es review to translate and then a written task where they use the imperfect tense to describe their own stay at these hotels. Some of the lesson is BVGS specific but should be quite easy to adapt to your own classes. Save zip file first and then open it.

I made this webquest for an ICT lesson at the end of a module on Sports/Hobbies. I used 2 Spanish polideportivos' websites and ScreenPresso to make the screenshots for the 2nd one. Year 11 conversations
A conversation idea i did with my year 11s. Basically it involved recording a conversation and leaving it on the internet with the mistakes in red for them to prepare for next lesson, come back and improve. I'd probably just leave it all on Edmodo now but it was good practice for pronunciation.
